Living off the sewer network means your wastewater system needs to be designed, installed, and maintained correctly. A poorly installed or neglected septic system is not just an inconvenience. It is a health hazard and a council compliance issue. A1 Plumbing and Gas Solutions handles the full scope of septic and onsite wastewater work across the Coffs Coast and hinterland.

Onsite Wastewater Done Right, From the Start

Every rural property is different. The right system makes all the difference.

A septic system is one of the most critical and least visible pieces of infrastructure on any rural property. Get it right and you will not think about it for decades. Get it wrong and the problems, costs, and health risks can be significant. A1 Plumbing and Gas Solutions has the experience and local knowledge to design and install the right system for your property, your soil type, your site conditions, and your council requirements.

Adam has been working on rural properties across the Coffs hinterland since 2016. He understands the specific soil conditions, drainage characteristics, and council requirements that apply to properties in and around Coffs Harbour, Dorrigo, Bellingen, and the surrounding region. That local knowledge makes a real difference when it comes to designing a system that will perform reliably for the long term.

Council Approval Notice

Council Approval is Required

All onsite sewage management systems in NSW require approval from your local council before installation. We work with you through the development application process and ensure your system is fully compliant with the relevant standards and conditions of approval.

Onsite Wastewater Systems We Install

The right system depends on your land, your soil, and your council requirements. Septic systems A1 plubmign and gas solutions coffs harbour

Not all septic systems are created equal, and not all systems are suitable for every site. The system that is right for your property depends on a range of factors including your block size, soil type, distance from water courses, household size, and the specific requirements of your local council. Adam will assess your site and guide you to the most appropriate solution.

Conventional Septic Tank

The most common onsite wastewater solution for rural properties. Wastewater flows into a septic tank where solids settle and liquid effluent drains to a leach field or absorption trenches. Simple, reliable, and cost-effective where soil conditions and block size allow. Requires periodic pump-out to remove accumulated solids.

Aerobic Treatment Units (ATU)

Aerobic treatment units use an aeration process to treat wastewater to a much higher standard than a conventional septic tank. The treated effluent can then be dispersed via surface or subsurface irrigation. ATUs are required on smaller blocks, near water courses, or where soil conditions do not suit a conventional system. They require regular servicing to maintain performance.

Effluent Disposal and Irrigation

The effluent disposal component is just as important as the treatment system itself. We design and install absorption trenches, leach drains, and surface or subsurface drip irrigation disposal areas to suit your site. A correctly designed disposal area protects groundwater, meets council requirements, and ensures your system works efficiently for decades.

Septic System Replacements

Old or failed septic systems on existing rural properties need to be assessed, decommissioned, and replaced with a modern compliant system. We manage the full replacement process including obtaining council approval for the new system, decommissioning the old one in accordance with regulations, and installing a new system designed for your current household needs.

Commercial and Larger Systems

Rural commercial properties, accommodation facilities, farm stays, and similar uses generate more wastewater than a typical residence and require appropriately sized systems. We design and install larger capacity onsite systems for commercial and semi-commercial applications, managed through the appropriate council approval process.

How We Handle Your Septic Installation

Clear steps from site assessment to council sign off.

Installing a new septic system involves more than just digging a hole and dropping in a tank. It is a process that requires careful site assessment, system design, council approval, and quality installation. A1 Plumbing and Gas Solutions manages the entire process so you know exactly what to expect and when.

Step 1: Site Assessment

We visit your property to assess the block size, topography, soil type, existing drainage patterns, proximity to water courses, and any other site specific factors that affect system selection and placement.

Step 2: Installation

Once approval is obtained, we carry out the full installation including excavation, tank placement, pipework, disposal area construction, and all connections. Work is carried out to Australian Standards and the specific conditions of your council approval.

Step 3: Inspection and Sign Off

All septic installations require council inspection before backfilling. We coordinate the inspection, ensure everything is correct before the inspector arrives, and obtain the final sign off so your system is officially approved and compliant.

We Handle the Council Process

Navigating the development application and approval process for a septic system can feel daunting. We take the complexity out of it. Here is what we manage on your behalf:

  • Site assessment and soil evaluation.
  •  Council liaison and follow up.
  • Installation to approval conditions.
  • Coordination of council inspections.
  • Final compliance sign off.

Call Adam to talk through your property and find out what type of system you need and what the approval process looks like for your specific situation.

Your Septic System Needs Regular Attention

A little care goes a long way. Neglect costs a lot.

A well installed septic system that is properly maintained can last for many decades without major issues. One that is neglected will fail prematurely, cause significant problems, and may result in council compliance notices. A1 Plumbing and Gas Solutions provides ongoing servicing and maintenance for all septic system types across the Coffs Coast and hinterland.

Regular Pump Outs

Conventional septic tanks need to be pumped out every three to five years depending on household size and usage. Leaving it too long allows solids to overflow into the disposal field, causing costly damage.

Disposal Field Checks

The disposal or irrigation area is often the first place to show problems. We inspect disposal fields for signs of saturation, vegetation die off, or surface ponding that can indicate the system needs attention.

Warning Signs Panel

Warning Signs Your System Needs Attention

  • Do not ignore these signs. Early action almost always means a cheaper fix.
  • Slow drains or gurgling sounds inside the house.
  • Wet or soggy patches over the disposal field.
  • Foul odours inside or outside the home.
  • Unusually lush or green grass over the tank or disposal area.
  • Sewage backup in toilets, sinks, or floor drains.
  • It has been more than five years since the last pump out.

If you notice any of these signs, call Adam as soon as possible. Acting early can be the difference between a simple service and a full system replacement.

Built for the Coffs Coast

From Dorrigo to the coast. We know this country.

The Coffs hinterland presents a diverse range of conditions for onsite wastewater systems. The heavy rainfall on the Dorrigo plateau requires different considerations to the drier valley floors around Bellingen. Clay heavy soils need different disposal designs to sandy or loam soils. Properties near water courses have stricter setback and treatment requirements.

Adam’s long familiarity with this region means he approaches every septic project with genuine local knowledge. He knows the local council requirements for both Bellingen Shire and Coffs Harbour City, understands the soil conditions across different parts of the region, and has built working relationships with the council officers and inspectors involved in the approval process.

Planning to Build or Buy Rural?

If you are purchasing a rural property or planning a new build, it is worth understanding the wastewater requirements for the site before you commit. We can carry out a preliminary assessment and give you a clear picture of what system will be required and what it is likely to cost, before you are committed to the purchase or the project.

There are no nasty surprises when you do your homework first. Give Adam a call for an obligation free conversation about your property.
